Insurance-Covered Infant Feeding & Lactation Care

Many families are surprised to learn that lactation and infant feeding support may be covered by insurance. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I provide evidence-based care for breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, milk supply concerns, latch difficulty, oral function concerns, and complex infant feeding challenges.

When possible, Columbus Le Lait helps families access care through participating insurance pathways. Coverage varies by insurance company, individual plan, eligibility, location, visit type, and network participation.

What Insurance May Help Cover

Insurance coverage is most commonly available for lactation and infant feeding services provided by an IBCLC. Depending on your plan, eligible visits may include prenatal feeding education, initial consultations, follow-up visits, and support for breastfeeding or pumping concerns.

Birth doula services, postpartum doula care, overnight newborn care, sibling support, and private childcare services are typically self-pay services unless your individual plan offers reimbursement or a special benefit.

Important Insurance Disclaimer

Some infant feeding and lactation services may be billed to insurance when possible. Coverage, eligibility, reimbursement, visit approval, and participating plans vary by insurance company and individual policy. Insurance coverage is not guaranteed until eligibility is verified and confirmed through the appropriate billing pathway.

Families are responsible for any services not covered by insurance, including self-pay visits, non-covered services, deductibles, coinsurance, denied claims, or services outside of participating insurance networks.

Self-Pay Options

Self-pay options are available for families who are not eligible for insurance-covered care, prefer private-pay services, need support outside of covered visit limits, or are scheduling services that are not typically covered by insurance.
